Animals and creatures - Illustrations ( Artist Axel Scheffler )

Axel Scheffler isn't well know compared to most of the children's book illustrators but he has illustrated a very famous children's book called the Gruffalo. Then Gruffalo is a story about a mouse who scares away his enemy's with a made up creature called the Gruffalo. The illustrations for the Gruffalo was made up by the use of coloured pencils and acrylic paints and by him using these to media's it really brings shape and depth to each page of the book.

This is the front cover of the Gruffalo book, the thing that stands out to me first is the Gruffalo that is hidden behind the tree and when you look around the facial expressions of the Gruffalo you notice that his eyes are pointing down to the mouse and they way he has uses the most noticeable image on the page direct you to a main part of the image but not as noticeable. The way he has uses the paints to cover up the large spaces of the image and then used pencils and pens to add the shape and lining to the hole image and it helps give the illustration a large amount of different textures.
